la cannonerie wedding venue

Cognac - an area of vineyards, gentle hills & stone walls is where you will find this former hunting lodge. Carefully renovated and managed by its current owners who provide a stunning events & vacation service together with a local team of excellent suppliers including Julia Hatton of Chatelaine Events, an expert in wedding planning. It was Julia & Shelley (the owner) who arranged the table settings for our shoot.

The domaine includes 30 acres of land with the main buildings set around a large grassed courtyard which includes a stone barn, a beautiful covered terrace with an arched entrance, a bar with 4 metre high ceiling (which was under renovation during my visit in May 2019) and a couple of cottages. There is a tree lined avenue running next to a vineyard overlooked by more holiday cottages, an enclosed pool and as much land as you need to stretch your legs and enjoy the beauty. This place is stunning.

I had the pleasure of spending the night here. The cottages are tastefully furnished and everything has been thought through with comfort in mind.

Shelley & Talfryn provided a delicious meal which we enjoyed under the arch. They are excellent hosts.

Whilst at La Cannonerie I met with the neighbours, the owners of Cognac Bertrand, an estate established in the 1800s and still family owned and managed. I don’t believe I will ever taste as good cognac again.

As dusk fell the string lights and candles (battery operated) lent a wonderful glow to end the evening as we enjoyed a glass of cognac and looked up at the stars.
