portrait of an artist
I’ve long admired the artwork of this elegant woman and artist, Swan Scalabre.
At her most recent exposition in Lectoure, Gers there were several series of oil paintings mounted within wooden frames. Small in size but incredibly detailed they create the impression of an artist’s progression; a changing mood from light to sombre but each series hints to me, nostalgia. Dream like and dramatic, the works, mounted upon three walls, warmly lit by the lowering sun, the light moving clockwise through each of the four long windows throwing shadows of their frames.
I wanted to capture the timeless look of the artist in a photographic portrait - I think I did.
